DATE: November 7-9, 2015
VENUE: Setagaya Campus, Tokyo University of Agriculture, Tokyo, Japan
THEME: Agricultural Sciences for Sustainable Development
RATIONALE/OBJECTIVES:
The International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences was established in 1994 to strengthen cooperation among agricultural scientists in Asia, particularly Southeast Asia, and to bring together groups of professionals from many different countries with common interests in agricultural development in the region. Since it’s founding, ISSAAS member scientists have made great strides on the regional and world stage through their contributions to agricultural science and rural development. Many countries and universities have also gained valuable experience from the practice of holding annual ISSAAS International conferences all around the region, specifically in Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. This year, the ISSAAS International Congress 2015 will be held at Tokyo University of Agriculture (Setagaya Campus, Tokyo) in conjunction with the 118th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Tropical Agriculture (JSTA), which was established in 1957 to create a network of agricultural scientists who are dedicated to promoting further research and dissemination of all aspects of knowledge related to tropical agriculture.
The objectives of this year’s congress are to revisit the concepts and processes of sustainable development, and discuss and evaluate the situation and outstanding issues related to agricultural science, which is the backbone of sustainable development of the region.
